Who doesn’t love the look of metal!
When metal is exposed to air and water a chemical reaction occurs, which makes the metal appear aged or tarnished.
Some people love this natural process, others don’t.
The best treatment is prevention and that includes proper storage of any metal product.
When jewelry is not worn, keep the metal dry and also stored in a box or preferably a re-closeable plastic zip bag to limit exposure to air.
However, over time, aging or tarnishing will happen.
Some of the methods you can use to help remove tarnish is:
- Use a jewelry cleaning cloth.
- Clean your metal jewelry in equal parts white vinegar and water and use a soft toothbrush so you can get into the corners and crevices. As always, do this on a test area such as the backside of your jewelry piece first. Once clean allow to thoroughly dry and then properly store your piece until you’re ready to wear again.
- Try cleaning your metal jewelry in a warm bubble bath. Use warm water and mild dish soap. Soak your jewelry for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and while you are rinsing you can gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Once you are done with this process, allow to dry.
Let me know if these suggestions help or if you have any tricks up your sleeves you’d like to share to help others get more life from their fashion jewelry!
